Winter Woes
Winter’s here and all of us at Stop Animal Cruelty want to make sure your pet is safe and ready for the cold weather ahead. The ideal place for your pets are in the house with you , but unfortunately for many different reasons, sometimes that isn’t possible. Here’s some safety tips to help being outside safe and warm.
Dogs need shelter! A nice, roomy doghouse with the bottom off the ground is a great start. You can use hay, cedar, straw, or other alternatives for bedding.
Make sure bedding is dry at all times!
Make sure they have fresh , NOT FROZEN, water available to them at all times. You can purchase a water bowl warmer at your local pet supply store, or you can change the water frequently to ensure it doesn’t freeze.
If you have outdoor cats, or cats in your neighborhood, always honk your horn in the morning to alert any cozy kittens that may be sleeping in your motor.
Antifreeze, De-Icers, and even the chemicals the road department use on the roads, are deadly to cats and dogs! They are very palatable to them and they will ingest them if they are accessible. Always put these products out of reach of your pets. If your pet does happen to get a hold of any of these products, seek veterinary care immediately!
Using these tips with a little common sense and some TLC will keep your furry friends happy and healthy!
